The Bite of the Cold

The ice has a way
Of freezing in your mind

Solidifying,

Lingering.

When you step outside, and you see your breath
The ice comes back
Weaving its frozen fingers
Through the annals of your memory.

When it thrashes your skin
And numbs your fingertips
The ice comes back
Reminding you of the mountains
Of the shivering and the stuttering
Of the cold steel in your hands and the wind biting your face.

Go now,
Back to where it’s warm.

But let the ice remain in the back corner of your mind
Let it be a reminder,
Of when misery bit you so.

Brrr. That made me shiver, Luke! I’m sitting closer to my under-the-desk heater now!

Excellent Luke. Being that cold is torture. Glad you made it back to the warm.
