Discobolus

Onto another rusty dawn
The sun bleeds now forth.
A bright blot.
Not warm;
Cold.
Lone.
Stark.
Rising;
Ascendant.
Daring to shed light,
Onto another rusty dawn.

Red Dawn’s remind me of West Texas and looking out over a flat red dirt plot of land prior to planting season.

I’ve been reading a new translation of The Odyssey (into modern American English, which is fun, haha) and it keeps using the phrase “rosy fingered dawn.” Which, on further reflection, seems a rather quiet and cozy way to greet the adventures of a new day. This rusty dawn sounds gritty and dispassionate in comparison. Like it’s time to start the day kicking butt and taking names, whether you wanted to snuggle longer under the covers or not.

Sometimes I wonder if it is me that is Rusty, and the dawn is just kicking that in my face…

I hope that the rusty dawn eventually turns to another color tone, and it does not continue as rusty forever.
